Editorial Services Lead

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Editorial Services Lead to support the delivery of high-quality academic content. Working closely with the Manager, Editorial Services, you’ll collaborate with suppliers, freelancers, and internal teams to ensure copyediting, proofreading, indexing, and related tasks meet rigorous business standards. The role primarily focuses on academic journals, with opportunities to contribute to book and database content. You’ll help shape editorial workflows, develop house style guides, monitor quality metrics, and explore innovative solutions to enhance editorial processes.

As a key liaison between Content Delivery, Editorial, and production teams, you’ll manage escalations, provide training, and maintain documentation to ensure consistency and excellence across editorial services. You’ll oversee the freelance pool for journal production, vetting new talent, offering feedback, and maintaining performance standards. This role demands strong communication skills, editorial expertise, and a collaborative mindset to align editorial strategy with evolving business needs.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office. 

About You

  • Expert knowledge of pre-editing, copyediting, proofreading, indexing, and related tasks
  • Expert knowledge of editorial style manuals
  • Excellent technical knowledge of industry-standard copyediting processes, production workflows, and editorial tools
  • Experience working with third-party suppliers and freelancers
  • Expertise in journals publishing
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Basic electronic spreadsheet skills
  • Basic skills in data analysis are beneficial
