Academic Stock Planning Controller

About Us

The Imports team is part of the Stock Planning Department within the Global Academic Division of OUP and is responsible for managing the division’s stock and data for all Imported, Journal and Commissioned products (print, Online and Ebook). The Stock Planning Department teams ensure maximum availability of product lines whilst maintaining minimal stock levels by making accurate quantity, quality and profitability decisions.

About the Role

Please note this is a part-time position, of 22 hours per week, 5.5 hours per day.

You will be working within a small tight-knit team, working flexibly to achieve their goals. Responsibilities will focus around managing the availability of stock for an allocated group of titles.

You'll get the chance to develop processes and gain a solid understand of OUPs global products which are key to this role. You'll also develop your ability to implement new workflows quickly and efficiently to assist with the pace of change within the publishing industry.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that data is correctly interpreted for all products and input into core systems so that accurate information is available to customers and OUP staff.

The Stock Controllers primary focus is on stock management to ensure availability to the US and UK markets. This role is based in the UK but will manage imported stock within the UK warehouse and local printing of UK product within India. This position will also provide backup to the other areas of the department as required. The stock controller will be required to evaluate data through a variety of programmes, systems and reports therefore attention to detail is essential. Equally critical to this position is the ability to develop good working relationships with the stock planning teams and warehouse managers’, excellent communication skills, both written and oral are fundamental.


About You

We are looking for an efficient stock controller or demand planner who has an interested in academic publishing and digital printing processes.

The position requires excellent computer literacy skills including Excel and database knowledge.

You will also require an aptitude for learning new systems and a variety of processes. It is essential that applicants are meticulous and can perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

The successful candidate will possess confident communication skills, a positive attitude, and ability prioritise their own workloads. OUP and/or SAP experience is an advantage, but not essential as training will be provided.

Previous experience in a position where demand planning and/or digital production has played a key role in its cores areas would be an advantage.
