Accounts Assistant

We have been a leading figure in publishing for more than 500 years. We have always been a forward-looking organization, maximizing the technology for the day, but the digital revolution is bringing enormous change, fast. That same spirit of adventure and entrepreneurialism is critical to our future success. In a fast-changing publishing landscape, OUP welcomes the inquisitive, the inventive, and the ambitious; people who challenge the conventional, and pioneer the possible.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join OUP’s Group Finance division as an Accounts Assistant. The team of Accounts Assistants are predominantly responsible for the high volume tasks of checking UK Staff Expense claims for compliance with OUP and HMRC policies and rules, and for posting journal entries submitted for posting to the Finance system.  Tasks will be allocated to ensure that the work is completed on a timely basis and that deadlines are met, and that there is cover at peak times and during absence.

  • UK Staff Expenses - checking compliance for each item of expenditure with UK Expenses Guidelines and other relevant policies
  • Filing and archiving of hard copy claims and receipts must be kept up to date
  • Uploading journal entries submitted for posting to the finance system (SAP), following procedures and ensuring sufficient supporting documentation is attached to each request
  • Assist Financial Accounts’ team management in preparing financial accounts for OUP’s UK businesses by raising manual sales invoices, recharging costs across the business
  • Act in partnership with staff in the business to ensure that services provided support the business

We’re all currently working from home at the moment due to COVID. We are currently thinking through how we use our offices in the future and are open to discussing flexibility within this such as a blend of office and home working. We expect this role to require approximately 2-3  days per week in the Oxford office, subject to change.
