About the role

This role will be part of the Global Technology Delivery Hub, which aims to enable efficient and effective delivery of technology change within OUP.  Core to this mission is transforming the delivery of change using Agile methods with this role being critical to the success of the transformation.

As an Agile Coach reporting to the Head of the Delivery Hub, your role will be to deliver Agile mentoring, coaching and training services within OUP Global Technology. You will support the implementation of new and better ways of working – delivering value in building innovative and exciting new products and services using Agile frameworks and methods. Specific responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide pro-active Agile coaching and leadership for all roles within Global Technology to support Agile project delivery.
  • Facilitate the creation and delivery of workshops to train and support Agile methods at all levels of the organisation with a particular focus on frequent delivery and feedback loops.
  • Understand the current OUP landscape and proactively work to embed an Agile culture across all levels of OUP.
  • Provide mentorship to individuals and key role holders – including Scrum Masters and Product Owners. This may include acting as the Scrum Master for projects in start up.
  • Support and coach on the following;
    • Agile ceremonies
    • Driving improvement within the production and management of product backlogs.
    • Scrum and Kanban delivery
    • Product ownership
    • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) program increment ceremonies i.e. PI Planning
    • Application and use of Agile tools
  • Develop, motivate and improve teams in order to successfully deliver required outcomes.

About you

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • Expert knowledge of Agile development techniques including Scrum.
  • Prior experience as a Scrum Master or Product Owner.
  • Excellent open and clear communication skills that can connect with all levels of the organisation via face-to-face and group presentation.
  • Experience of using common Agile tools including Atlassian JIRA and associated applications.
  • Ability to manage a large and varied workload, to prioritise and multi-task.
  • A sound knowledge of a common software delivery lifecycle with an understanding of technical approaches and architecture.
  • A sound knowledge of software engineering practices.


  • Experience of working with SAFe.
  • Prior experience of working in non-agile project delivery methods such as PRINCE 2 or PMP.
  • A qualification within Agile from a recognised Agile body (, Scrum Alliance, SAFe etc).
