Associate Architect

About the Role

As Associate Architect, you’ll be joining a Contemporary Architecture & Innovation team. OUP is undergoing a major business transformation from print to digital products and services. To enable this we are transforming the Enterprise Architecture capability to enable the business to achieve its digital ambitions through Technology.

This role will equip you with the knowledge, skills and experience to progress in the exciting world of architecture. Primarily you will work with a number of Enterprise Architects on defining and building the future Business Technology blueprints for the Press and supporting them on guiding, governing and directing the technology estate. There will be opportunities to rotate across a number of disciplines such as Business & Application Architecture and Digital Products Architecture so you can gain a full appreciation of the Architecture support.

  • Supporting the development of our business architecture and future Target operating model (TOM)
  • Optimising our processes through automation and use of technology
  • Exploring new technologies such as the use of Artificial Intelligence to solve business problems
  • Translating the business strategic need to develop technology roadmaps

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the  business architecture strategy based on a situational awareness of various business scenarios and motivations
  • Apply a structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the enterprise
  • Capture the tactical and strategic enterprise goals that provide traceability through the organization and are mapped to metrics that provide ongoing governance
  • Describe the primary business functions of the enterprise and distinguish between customer-facing, supplier-related, business execution and business management functions
  • Assess requirements, identify problems, and determine the appropriate method of data collection and research methodology
  • Support the introduction of Front Office IT capabilities (CRM, Customer Contact, ecommerce, web)
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to analyze business capabilities and define scope of provision
  • Undertake feasibility studies for major IT developments, looking at costs and benefits, and presenting proposals
  • Provide advice and assistance from procurement through to delivery, use and maintenance of IT systems and their environments
  • Support the rationalisation of applications to reduce cost and complexity
  • Support the internal development of the Architecture function e.g. maintain Architecture repository

We operate a hybrid working policy and expect this role to require approximately 2 days per week in the Oxford office, but are open to discussing flexibility within this.  

About You

You will have experience of working in a business facing role in digital product organizations such as banking, financial services or FMCG, be familiar with product lifecycle concepts, and will have used SAP CRM/AMO systems previously.

Essential:

  • Understanding of sales & marketing capabilities and processes, finance business case development (NPV, ROI techniques), procurement, and business Strategy development
  • Experience working in global or international environment
  • Experience of working with key stakeholders and the ability to manage expectations in a professional and diplomatic manner
  • Motivated by long-term results and achieving targeted business outcomes
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge of enterprise platforms, including ecommerce/web, content management, CRM/marketing, and data/reporting
  • Experience of working in complex organisations undergoing transformation
  • Experience of working in a global organization across a range of territories and markets
  • Understanding of data privacy and information security
