Commissioning Editor

The Academic division publishes books, journals, and digital resources for the research, professional, and higher education markets.

This role is within the Higher Education department, where we commission, shape and develop content of the highest quality to support teaching and learning in the Higher Education sector.

In this role you will manage and grow OUP’s publishing programme in economics, accounting, and finance for the higher education market by acquiring best-selling new titles and revising key copyrights.  

About the role

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Enact our ambitious plans for aggressive growth of the economics, finance, and accounting lists
  • Speedily recruit talented authors to write for OUP. Solicit projects from potential authors, successfully present to the editorial board after external review, and lead authors from contract to manuscript submission
  • Direct a sensible technology strategy for the list
  • Ensure products (both print and digital) are commissioned and developed in a timely way and meet market needs
  • Expand the Oxford brand as a strong and respected presence within the economics, finance, and accounting teaching communities in the UK and around the world
  • Regularly revise titles with strong sales potential
  • In collaboration with marketing and sales colleagues, drive adoptions
  • Build a network of excellent contacts in the academic economics, finance, and accounting communities, both through campus travel (10+ weeks per year) and conference attendance
  • Maintain productive relations with other publishing functions and departments within OUP
  • Manage the financial and operational needs of the list
  • Manage an Assistant Editor

About you

  • Have a proven track record in higher education sales OR recent higher education editorial experience, ideally demonstrating a proven track record of publishing successful first editions.

Most importantly, you will be curious about the future and come up with creative, timely and cost-effective solutions that move our business forward.

Extensive travel in the UK is required.
