Designer - Fixed Term Contract

About Us

Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford, which furthers the University’s objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide.

The Education design team is part of the OUP Education division and produces market-leading design for print and digital product for the UK and International markets. This an exciting opportunity for a mid-level talented designer to join the Primary design team and to lead on the design of highly illustrated content for established market-leading literacy brands.

About the Role

  • You will be preparing briefs and templates for print/digital products, to work across a series. Ensuring consistency and quality of design and illustration across customer facing products, including creating marketing items linked to product
  • You will be required to present your ideas to colleagues from time to time
  • You will be managing budgets and schedules with support from your manager
  • You will be managing relationships with key external designers, illustrators and typesetters.
  • You will be required to attend project meetings and report back in an effective manner on key dates and issues,
  • You will be developing key relationships with internal stakeholders including editorial, marketing and production colleagues

Please note, this is a fixed term contract of 26 weeks.

About You

  • A highly creative individual who can bring ideas and energy into a dynamic team environment and provide market appropriate design solutions to a brief.
  • Excellent typographic skills.
  • A self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent level of skill in all Adobe Creative Suite software including Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Previous experience in using Data or Asset Management systems and knowledge of MS Office would be an advantage.
  • Previous, proven experience of working at a Designer level is essential, with experience in commissioning design and illustration for print and digital educational or editorial content.

You will be required to present a portfolio of your work.
