Development Editor

About the role

The Development Editor will be responsible for developing manuscripts, or creating author and editor briefs, which are appropriate for their intended users and delivered to schedule in a cost effective and timely manner. The Development Editor will work on dictionaries and learning at home material for children of all ages, across a broad subject range, assisting with the creation of both printed and online support.

The role will include:

  • Developing and editing manuscripts and author briefs at all proof stages in line with strategy and product specification, with reference to relevant curricula or tests.
  • Liaising with authors, partners and advisors to implement structural editing and rewriting with support and guidance.
  • Day-to-day running of projects, including management of project schedules and budgets.
  • Carefully managing customer query inbox, with queries answered in a timely manner and any corrections logged efficiently.
  • Management of reprints, according to correct process and within agreed timeframes

About you

The successful candidate will…

  • Have a high level of editorial experience.
  • Be extremely organized.
  • Experienced with main software packages such as Work and Excel.
  • Experience of writing or rewriting materials for students of different levels of literacy and for different audiences.
  • Project management experience, ideally in a similar field.
  • Have an excellent customer focus and able to adapt their approach to appropriate audiences.
