Development Editor (Fixed term contract)

About the Role

We are looking for a Development Editor to join our Primary Literacy Team and help us deliver print and digital resources for our market leading list.

The successful applicant will shape manuscripts and briefs so that they are right for their intended users, and will work with authors and other editors, and design and production teams, to ensure that high-quality, market-appropriate products publish on time and within budget.

Responsibilities include:

  • content editing and development from manuscript through to final proofs
  • creating illustration, design and digital content briefs
  • managing schedules and monitoring budgets
  • briefing and managing freelancers
  • working closely with a range of experts and authors, including some high profile authors
  • market research to inform publishing decisions and to deepen your knowledge of the primary school market.

Please note, this is a 6 month fixed term contract.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • have editorial experience, ideally in children’s or educational publishing
  • have experience of working on both print and digital resources
  • have experience of working on multiple-component projects
  • be educated to degree level or equivalent with excellent English language skills
  • have excellent organisational and project-management skills
  • have a commitment to producing content to the highest standards
  • be passionate about making a real difference to the education of primary-aged pupils
  • enjoy working with a wide range of people and have excellent communication skills.

An understanding of primary school education and current classroom practice would be a distinct advantage.
