Director, Library Sales: UK, Europe & ANZ

About the Role

We are looking for a new Director of Library Sales: UK, Europe & ANZ to develop and implement effective strategies to achieve sales goals for the division’s Journals and Online Products to the institutional and corporate customers within the UK, Europe and ANZ markets.

This role is ideally suited to someone with previous experience of sales management and selling of journals or online resources.

Duties of the role will include:

  • Sales Growth - Oversee sales of the Oxford Journals and Online Products to maximise revenue and protect revenue streams within the region; to support sales through Agents, Distributors, individual institutions, and consortia. Manage retail and wholesale revenue across Europe.
  • Business Models and Pricing – Work with colleagues across sales, product, and marketing to ensure that our selling models and pricing are appropriate for revenue and market share growth.
  • Strategy – Develop and implement a sales strategy in order to maximise institutional sales of Journals Collections, Subscription, and Online products to all channels with in UK, Europe, and ANZ regions.
  • Management – Manage recruitment and selection for the UK, EUR, & ANZ library sales teams; recruit, train, motivate and manage individual and team performance to meet mission and revenue targets for the team.
  • Communication - Establish and maintain regular communication with other Academic departments, and other teams within sales, in order to share best practice, ideas, and sales opportunities and ensure consistency.
  • Market/Customer outreach - Co-ordinate research into new prospects and new sales opportunities with your team and alongside Marketing in order to identify areas for growth.
  • Budget - Prepare and regularly monitor the annual budget for sales revenue and for overheads for the sales territory so that targets are agreed and adhered to.
  • Training – Work with Sales Director and Head of Training team to create a focused training plan for the UK, Europe, and ANZ Sales teams which supports selling activity, and product focus.
  • Industry knowledge - Maintain a demonstrably thorough knowledge of the electronic information publishing industry, its products, markets and trends and OUP’s position in it, to help maintain our competitive advantage.
  • Business Partner Management – Support Academic business by being the regional expert when supporting the division’s strategic priorities and policy.

About You


  • Previous experience of sales management and selling of journals or online resources
  • Proven Leadership qualities and experience
  • Hands-on, practical, and action-oriented problem solver.
  • Highly skilled in using software packages such as Excel, SalesForce, with a proven aptitude to learn and work with new systems
  • Excellent organisational abilities
  • Experience of interpreting legal documents and negotiating intelligently with legally qualified people and accountants
  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume, complex workload through prioritisation of tasks in line with departmental objectives

We’re all currently working from home at the moment due to COVID.  We are currently thinking through how we use our offices in the future and are open to discussing flexibility within this such as a blend of office and home working.
