Director of Manufacturing & Inventory - ELT

About the Role

As our new Director of Manufacturing & Inventory for the ELT division, you will be accountable for developing and leading a globally aligned manufacturing activity that fully leverages OUP scale to drive down total cost of ownership.  You will lead a globally aligned inventory management capability that optimises the availability of physical products and the associated digital services across OUP, whilst minimising costs to the business, through demand planning and supply planning best practice and the efficient movement of stock of the Press’ physical product (largely books) through the supply chain. 

This role is ideally suited to someone with the ability to take ownership and further transformation, who has experience in a complex, global organisation and skills in managing outsourced manufacturing.

Duties will include:

  • Setting a divisional stock management strategy, balancing the cost to manufacture with optimal stock levels to support revenue growth.
  • Setting printer allocations, in partnership with the procurement function, to balance divisional business requirements with best cost solutions.
  • Effective leadership, planning, co-ordination of strategic ‘Change’ programmes across Manufacturing and Inventory into the Divisional business. Ensuring alignment of program budgets and execution with Business needs
  • Ensuring the overall ‘Run’ service delivery across the Manufacturing and Inventory environment is achieving its core KPI’s.
  • Establishing the appropriate operating model (including solid and dotted reporting lines and the appropriate matrix management), in close alignment with the other divisional Directors of Manufacturing and inventory.
  • Ownership of the S&OP process for the division, ensuring that the forecast is delivered and transformed into a delivery plan in an efficient and cost-effective way.
  • Lead a team of Manufacturing and Inventory professionals ensuring team is led and supported appropriately. Team size will vary but will include the direct line management of multiple people managers.

We operate a hybrid working policy and expect this role to require approximately 2 days per week in the Oxford office. 

About You

  • Already operating at Senior Leadership level.
  • Skilled communicator and excellent stakeholder management, ability to work and influence at C-suite level.
  • Works strategically to realize organizational goals and develops compelling visions for the future.
  • Ability to work across multiple initiatives with strong delegation and empowerment skills.
  • Skilled at operating in a matrix environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven track record in driving operational execution in a global procurement / supply chain environment
  • Experienced in managing budgets
  • Program Management Expertise
  • Leading cross-functional teams in a global environment with multiple executive stakeholders.
  • Strategy planning, enterprise portfolio development and management.
  • Shaping, advising on, and delivering global transformation programmes
  • A proven ability to deliver projects/ programmes and an understanding of the need to work with business change management functions to embed change in an effective manner
  • Experienced delivery, tracking and reporting of complex portfolio programmes to senior executives.
