Editorial Assistant (Fixed term contract/Secondment)

The Academic division publishes books, journals and digital resources for the research, professional and higher education markets across a number of publishing areas, including Law. 

About the Role

The Law Editorial Programme team works to develop and deliver products in multiple formats across a variety of legal areas. This role sits within a dynamic, busy team and we are looking for a positive and self-motivated Editorial Assistant to join us to provide essential editorial and administrative support to the team. Your main duties will be to:

  • work on allocated projects with programme team colleagues and external authors/editor teams, during content preparation; receive, process and track content, answer queries and provide author and editor support
  • maintain accurate content and product metadata and ensure records are updated
  • support commissioning process, assisting with product approval, peer review and contracting stages
  • process payment/gratis requests through relevant systems
  • review content data on digital products and services in advance of publication
  • Liaise with colleagues from other functions including Content Operations, Royalties, Marketing and Customer Services, to ensure the efficiency of the publishing process and the effective presentation of our products to the legal market.

Please note: This is a 6 month fixed term contract (or secondment opportunity) with potential for extension.

About You

You will be accurate, organised and calm. You will be able to handle detailed and sometimes complex tasks, often under time pressure, without losing either your accuracy or your sense of humour. You will be eager to learn and have a flexible approach to helping others. You must be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people in various contexts.

The role also requires that you have:

  • excellent attention to detail and some editorial aptitude
  • good organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise
  • ability and confidence with MS Office packages (Word/Excel/Outlook)

Experience of publishing is not essential but some experience within an administrative role would be advantageous. You do not need to have knowledge of law.
