Head of International Schools Marketing (Fixed Term Contract/Secondment)

About the role

This role is within the friendly and creative international marketing team who work to support schools and booksellers in over 170 countries. Leading a team of 6 you will be responsible for creating and directing the International schools marketing strategy in order to build brands and market share, reach more international teachers, maximise profitability and achieve sustainable sales growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Line management of 6 members of the international schools marketing team, motivating and enabling them to deliver the marketing strategy.
  • Ownership of the international schools digital marketing strategy, driving web development and new media campaigns, optimising online media channels, launching new products and driving backlist revenue.
  • Acting as a powerful and informed voice of the market, work with sales and publishing colleagues to contribute to and refine publishing strategies.
  • Be responsible for initiating and negotiating new external partnerships, and for managing and developing existing partnerships.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with relevant internal Oxford University Press stakeholders, particularly senior marketing colleagues around the world.
  • Proposing, directing and managing budgets.
  • Have ownership of the International schools brand strategy, with a core role in brand development.

There is an opportunity to travel with this role.

Please note: This role is a 6 month fixed term contract with possible extension.

About you

You will be a strong leader with a clear marketing vision and customer focus, an excellent communicator with a strategic mind. To be considered you will also have:


  • Deep experience of marketing at a senior level
  • Extensive team management experience with excellent leadership skills
  • Experience of setting and leading cross-divisional business and marketing strategy
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills and experience of forming strategic partnerships
  • Experience of digital marketing and marketing digital product
  • Experience of setting and managing divisional level budgets
  • Excellent presentational and interpersonal skills across teams and divisions
  • Experience of using management information systems to analyse business performance and market trends.


  • Knowledge of the education and assessment sectors
  • Experience within the publishing industry
  • Business/marketing qualification
  • Willingness to travel.


We care about work/life balance here at OUP; with this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays and Christmas closure), and a 35-hour working week, along with the flexibility to start and finish late or early as required. This role has the ability to work from home one day per week.

This role comes with a bonus scheme and our pension contribution is up to 11%.
