About the Role

Due to the Team expanding, we are looking for a methodical and data savvy researcher to join the Market & UX Research Team in the Academic Division as a Market Research Analyst. The Market Research Analyst will undertake quantitative and qualitative market research, supporting research programmes from concept development and research design, to survey creation, analysis and reporting.  They will also support the Division’s wider market intelligence gathering through monitoring and reporting industry news and preparing summary reports for the Academic division.

Key duties of the role will include:

  • Provide guidance on market research methodology and design data collection methods that accurately garner the Voice of the Customer.
  • Undertake qualitative research through systematic coding of qualitative data, extracting dominant themes and undertaking high-level comment analysis.
  • Analyze market research data to derive actionable insights to route to the relevant OUP stakeholders to take action.
  • Write and present research findings and business intelligence insights to concisely convey key messages to stakeholder groups.
  • Manage the scheduling of external research engagements and direct dialogue with participants.
  • Compile and report industry news and research evidence for the Academic division.
  • Support wider customer research programmes and strategic industry trend reports as appropriate.

We’re all currently working from home at the moment due to COVID.  We are currently thinking through how we use our offices in the future and are open to discussing flexibility within this, such as a blend of office and home working.

About You

You’ll have a keen interest in Market Research and some relevant industry experience or a degree (or similar) in a related subject. Ideally, you’ll have a background in Social Science and understand quantitative and qualitative research.  We’re open to applications from anyone with the skills and experience to do this job, and offer some flexibility around your working days / hours.

You will have the following:

  • Experience in survey design, qualitative interviews, and focus groups.
  • Proficient in data analysis and experience with statistical tools to analyse and interpret data; Excel / SPSS etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesize information from large volumes of written and data reports and convey main themes in a neutral format.
  • Ability to work closely with stakeholders across the business.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a varied workload, meeting deadlines set and working on own initiative.


  • Experience of the publishing industry
  • Experience in a market research setting.
