Production Team Leader

The Global Academic Division publishes books, journals and digital resources for the research, professional and higher education markets.

About the Role

As a Production Team Leader, you will be responsible for managing a team of 7 Production Editors co-ordinating the production of a list of high-quality print and electronic journals to schedule and to budget.  

The successful candidate will be joining a busy team focused on delivering an excellent service and continuously improving our processes to meet business needs.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting, managing and developing staff to ensure they have the skills and demonstrate the performance required to deliver products and services to a constantly changing market.
  • Managing the performance of our suppliers to ensure they meet agreed service levels, identifying workflow solutions, coordinating department-wide solutions and constantly assessing our internal processes and our approach to supplier management as needs change.
  • Proactively managing client relationships to ensure expectations are understood, that issues are addressed promptly, and that all of our publishing partnerships are supported by an excellent level of service.
  • Liaising with other departments within the Press to ensure effective and efficient delivery of our journals products.
  • Working with a dynamic management team with responsibilities across our books and journals products, to identify opportunities to enhance our products and services, and inputting into our longer-term strategy.

About You

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:  

Essential:  

  • Experience of producing of a significant number of titles
  • Familiarity with copy-editing, proofreading, XML and online publication processes
  • Experience of working with external clients
  • Experience of successfully delivering multiple projects to completion
  • Experience of working with/managing third-party and freelance vendors
  • Demonstrated management potential
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Proven line management experience
  • Proven project management experience
  • Experience of managing third-party suppliers
  • Experience of external client account management
  • Experience of recruitment and selection
  • Experience of cost analysis and managing budgets.
