The STEM team at OUP publish a wide range of successful educational for ages 3 to 18, working with teachers, educational partners, and industry experts to ensure maximum impact on educational outcomes.  

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact in Maths education by joining a creative and innovative STEM publishing team as Primary Maths Publisher. We are looking for someone who is truly passionate about maths education and improving the lives of young people. 

Working with the Head of STEM, you will devise a customer strategy for Maths that will drive growth and focus on a strong relationship with our customers by always having a deep understanding of their needs and anticipate how market changes will impact on them.

You will also be responsible for the delivery on time and to budget of the publishing plan through strong leadership, clear and effective communication and excellent project management skills.

You will build our network and influence by fostering strong relationships with authors, teachers, influencers, experts, and subject associations.

You will manage editors, supporting them with the delivery of their projects as well as their personal development to ensure we have and retain the best talents. In addition, you will work collaboratively with the MyMaths team and Programme Management Function, as well as guide other commissioning editors and editors across the STEM editorial team who may work on projects led by you.

About You

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

  • A creative and innovative mindset
  • A clear passion for maths education
  • Excellent leadership, management, and influencing skills
  • Understanding of learning trends and pedagogy
  • A strong background in education, gained through either publishing, policy, teaching, or adjacent industries and functions
  • A deep understanding of the needs of primary teachers and learners
  • A good understanding of the UK’s maths curriculum
  • A track-record of having successfully implemented complex projects that have driven growth or positive change whilst remaining profitable/in-budget
  • Experience of managing, developing and motivating teams.
  • Excellent presentation and proposal writing skills

The following are also desirable: 

  • Experience of teaching or curriculum development at primary level
  • Editorial experience
