Senior Accounts Payable Manager

OUP are a mission led organisation delivering excellence in education around the globe through publishing. This role sits within our Group Finance Division which is responsible for providing financial accounting and transactional support services for the Group in the UK.

About the role:

Responsible for the UK accounts payable ledger for the UK business this is an exciting time to join OUP. With the recent implementation of a new invoice processing system we require a forward thinking, strategic individual looking to lead and develop a team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage a team of 6, developing their knowledge to increase ability to deal with queries
  • Drive efficiency and productivity by assigning work to team members based on metrics from the vendor invoice management system (VIM) and email query management system (8x8)
  • Oversee the payment of supplier invoices
  • Approve set up of new supplier accounts
  • Approve maintenance of existing supplier accounts
  • Business partner with users of the system within the business to resolve problems and discuss key performance metrics with key stakeholders.

About you:

You will be a confident communicator with strong management skills. To be considered you will have the following:


  • Previous experience of leading a high preforming accounts payable team
  • Experience of working with a 3 way match purchase order system
  • Experience of issue resolution
  • Awareness of the importance of using metrics as a tool for managing a team and for reporting purposes
  • Business partnering skills
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Line management experience


  • Experience of using SAP and knowledge of AP systems including EDI and OCR scanning
  • Experience of working as part of a departmental management team
  • Experience of dealing with large volumes of multi-currency invoices
  • Experience and knowledge of the publishing industry
  • Previous use of an email query management system.
