About the role

The Commercial team is responsible for the provision of high quality business partnering, financial management, reporting and analysis to ensure UK Education meets its financial and strategic objectives.

We are recruiting for a Senior Commercial Analyst to support the business in commercial decision making through the provision of data, reporting and analysis. The job-holder will need to have a high degree of commercial acumen and numeracy, coupled with an analytical approach so they can interpret data from our core systems and provide accurate, clear, relevant and concise information to support the wider business in achieving its goals. Information requirements are wide and varied but include business and product performance metrics, budget and forecast information and tracking mechanisms to ensure control and transparency of costs.

The responsibilities include:

  • Reporting – Production and active development of regular and ad-hoc reporting to track performance of the business.
  • Commercial Support - Use our core business systems (SAP, BW, Spirit) and MS office applications, prepare analysis to provide decision-making support for the business e.g. sales, market, product/brand analysis, overheads.
  • P&L - Ensure numerous P&L’s are accounted for correctly and thus represent an accurate record of trading and the current performance. Ensure the performance is understood by key stakeholders.
  • Forecasting – Work closely with numerous stakeholders across the business to create and maintain accurate forecasting with variance analysis against budget and prior year.
  • Budgeting/Five Year Planning - Work with the business to support the creation of a robust and defensible Five Year Plan and Budget.
  • Provide business partnering support to evaluate business models for new products, partnerships and projects and assess risk and return to enable decision making on strategic initiatives.

About the candidate

The successful candidate will be:

  • A Part Qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA with strong experience in supporting a commercial and financial team in achieving the best possible service to its customers.
  • A person with a strong attention to detail and accuracy and capable of delivering a consistent and high level of output.
  • An advanced user of MS excel, with experience in building or developing models to provide efficient and accurate information for the business.
  • Well-organised with the ability to manage a complex workload with multiple deadlines and stakeholders.
  • A confident individual with the ability to communicate clearly and with credibility at all levels of the organization.
  • Able to demonstrate accounting knowledge and understanding of production and maintenance of financial statements.
  • Able to think commercially and identify areas of focus for the business.
  • Experienced in the creation of five year plans, budgets and forecasts.


  • Knowledge and experience of SAP.
  • Publishing experience.
