Senior Development Editor x 2

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for two Senior Development Editors to join the UK Primary Literacy team. The roles will be working on major UK primary literacy brands such as Oxford Reading Tree, Read Write Inc. and Project X. Reporting to the Senior Publisher, the Senior Development Editor will research markets and shape and commission products in consultation with their managers, and to project manage in-house and freelance editors and author teams to ensure that high-quality, market-appropriate products publish on time and within budget. The roles will have a substantial contribution to multiple print and digital products/courses of varying scope and scale.

Engaging across the Press and beyond, you will be working with the Director of Primary Literacy, Publishing and Editorial colleagues; Design and Production teams, plus Marketing and Sales; the Senior Development Editor will also have external interactions with authors, contributors, freelance editors, reviewers, advisors, teachers, learners and customers.

About You


If you’re a Senior Development Editor with a passion for literacy, education (in particular UK Primary) and publishing looking for a new challenge in a supportive, creative and innovative team, then this opportunity will interest you. 


  • High levels of literacy and numeracy.
  • IT literate with experience of Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Experience of educational publishing.
  • Experience of writing or rewriting materials for students of different levels of literacy.
  • Project management experience, ideally in a similar field.



  • Experience of teaching in the school types for which we produce resources.
