(Senior) Production Editor - (Fixed Term Contract)

The Global Academic Division publishes books, journals, and digital resources for the research, professional, and higher education markets.

About the Role

The Content Operations team is responsible for coordinating the production of high-quality print and electronic publications to schedule and to budget.

We are recruiting for a Production Editor or Senior Production Editor for the In-House production team. The team specializes in books requiring a high level of author care and attention to detail across a diverse range of Academic, Higher Education, Scholarly, and Trade books, including Classics, History, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Religion, and Science.

The successful candidate will be joining a friendly team working on some of OUP’s most challenging and interesting books. You will work with a team focused on delivering an excellent service to our authors and continuously improving our processes to meet business needs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Organizing the copy-editing, typesetting, proofreading, and indexing for multiple simultaneous products in diverse subject areas.
  • Acting as the key point of contact for authors during production, and providing a high level of author care.
  • Producing cost estimates; managing costs and schedules to ensure products are brought out on time, on budget, and to a high quality.
  • Liaising closely with internal colleagues, external suppliers, and authors to ensure all information is available, accurate, and up to date.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following essential skills:

  • Proven production and/or project management experience.
  • Superb customer service skills.
  • A flexible approach to working across different subject areas and on projects of different shapes and sizes.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage a busy and varied workload and work to strict deadlines, and to support stakeholders to meet production deadlines.
  • A conscientious and can-do approach to work.
  • Involvement in project work or other similar experience in process improvements. (Senior PE only)
  • An analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Written and numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

Please note this is a 6 month Maternity cover fixed term contract.
