JOB VACANCY

Senior Production Editor x 2

We believe that the skills you bring to OUP are just a starting point. We want you to have the opportunity to expand your abilities, and innovate and develop in areas which both interest you, and support your aspirations. This exciting role will focus on supporting a fast-paced and diverse publishing program within the Content Operations Academic Books Department.

You will oversee the work of supplier project managers, who act as the primary production contacts for titles ranging from relatively simple to highly complex. A key skill will be solution oriented and comfortable embracing change, while also having the ability to help foster change and to be an evangelist for improving quality and efficiency while delivering individual product components in a timely manner, accurately, and within budget.

A typical day would be:

  • Supporting the project managers with schedules and budgets for each component of individual projects.
  • Supporting the project managers in evaluating performance discrepancies and collaborate on solutions.
  • Liaise with the project managers to commission, negotiate fees for, track, and evaluate quality of work for pre-press suppliers and for other service providers such as copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers.
  • Analyse and resolve product-related problems in conjunction with project managers, with content and process.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Relevant experience in book or journal production work or in project management
  • Experience working with offshore suppliers
  • Constructive and proven approach to problem-solving
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities and projects at once—prioritize judiciously and manage requirements for a high volume of titles
  • Ability to monitor schedules and manage workflow
  • Ability to build relationships and work with various internal stakeholders, up to manager level.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of print and digital production processes and project management in a content-centric publishing environment
  • Experience supporting an outsourced production workflow
  • Experience of training others.
