Supplier Manager (Content Creation)

About us

OUP’s publishing covers a wide range of subjects in multiple geographies. The global reach of the company requires the Group Procurement team to work with stakeholders around the world to source a variety of content creation and pre-press services and products. These content creation services are managed by internal design, digital and content teams and the Supplier Manager sources and manages suppliers to meet divisional requirements. In order to do this the Supplier Manager needs knowledge of publishing processes.  

About the role

A position for a Supplier Manager responsible for Content Creation service providers has been created within the Direct Procurement team in Group Procurement, a Group Operations function.

The role is required to support the strategy for the category and to deliver on benefits targets, carry out sourcing activities and provide exceptional supplier management. 

Content Creation is a significant category of spend in OUP and includes a number of core activities required for successful publishing. This role is responsible for the ongoing management of the global suppliers that deliver services required to publish our content. The Supplier Manager will also be involved in the sourcing and selection processes as directed by the Content Creation Category Manager.  Working with the four divisions of OUP the role also identifies areas of opportunity with regards to process improvement, market analysis and process efficiency.  It ensures the supplier base is price competitive for the complex and varied services and specifications within OUP and that quality and schedule requirements are met.  It is required to manage the day-to-day issues with suppliers and stakeholders along with ensuring that regular formal reviews and future initiatives are deployed appropriately.

About you

  • Experience in supplier management, including of strategic partnerships, ideally on a global scale.
  • Highly developed stakeholder management skills both internal and external
  • Good understanding of the dynamics of the supply market place & demonstrates the ability to build in-depth expertise in a specialised category area
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to lead (where appropriate) or fully participate in cross-functional teams and confidently operate at senior levels with internal business and suppliers
  • Analytical/commercially minded
  • Possesses excellent negotiation skills
  • Creative thinker, able to demonstrate innovative approaches to problem solving
  • Handle a variety of complex projects simultaneously
  • Highly skilled in Programme & Change management
  • Role models leadership behaviours
  • Understands and is aligned to company strategy
  • Understanding and experience of the Publishing process is desirable.
