Supply Planner

We are the world’s largest university press. We have both a worldwide reach and a personal understanding of local needs, partnering on the ground to adapt publications and resources to meet the individual needs of communities, societies, and countries. We partner with researchers, educators, and technology partners to stay ahead of the changing ways people around the world are accessing and sharing knowledge. With a presence in more than 50 countries and millions of customers around the world, an idea launched at OUP can have global impact.

About the Role

Working as part of the newly created Inventory Centre of Excellence team, the Supply Planner role is responsible for the effective and timely coordination of a global supply plan and its delivery across the global supply network.  Key measures of success will be availability of product in the right place, at the right time, and at the right cost against the demand forecast.

Reporting to the Supply Planning Manager, you will work collaboratively with colleagues in Sales, Publishing, Content Operations, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing to understand the key upstream and downstream supply drivers within the end to end value chain. The Supply Planner is required to translate the forecast, requirements, and constraints into a supply plan out to 18 months. The plan will inform the capacity plan for Supply Chain and Manufacturing colleagues to ensure appropriate levels of resource and capacity are in place to support the planned requirements and product availability.

In coordinating and executing the supply plan, you will identify, manage, and mitigate any supply risks and issues, and provide the relevant inputs into the monthly Supply Review Meetings for the appropriate level of governance and oversight by senior management stakeholders.

We are currently in a transition period, implementing a sales and operations planning (S&OP) process and working closely with the various OUP divisions.  This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys looking at best practices, implementing change and coming up with new and fresh ideas to benefit our stakeholders.

We’re all currently working from home at the moment due to COVID. We are currently thinking through how we use our offices in the future and are open to discussing flexibility within this such as a blend of office and home working.

About You

You’ll be a confident individual, with the ability to analyze all the information available and then be comfortable making decisions / recommendations based on this.  Great communication skills are essential as you’ll be working with colleagues at all levels, throughout OUP.

You will have:

  • Strong decision-making ability and good attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential to effectively interact with all functional teams.
  • Strong communicator to all levels and a proven problem solver.
  • An eye for continuous improvement and demonstratable ability to deal with ambiguity and remain calm under pressure.
  • Proficiency in analysis, forecasting and forecasting methodologies with an understanding of their financial and operational impacts.
  • Experience working cross functionally to deliver results within an end to end value chain.
  • Working knowledge and experience of S&OP methodologies.
  • Experience of presenting at cross functional meetings.
  • Strong IT skills, including an intermediate level with Excel – confident using formulas, pivot tables and lookups etc.
  • Preferred sector experience will include publishing, retail, consumer goods, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.
  • Working knowledge of supply planning software, with recent knowledge of SAP APO and / or IBP would be advantageous but not essential.

Benefits

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect of working hours and the use of technology to support regular remote working, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.

We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.
