JOB VACANCY

Assistant Content Editor x 3

About Us

We are the world’s largest university press. That means we serve the academic community as no other publisher can. We work in partnership with institutions and learned societies to bring a world of knowledge to the fingertips of students and researchers worldwide.

The goal is impact. Together with our academic communities, we curate and seamlessly connect together the ideas that push their fields forward, so they can learn from them, add to them, and continue a virtuous cycle of scholarship.

And because we are a part of the academic community and guided in everything we do by our mission, we re-invest in our people, our publishing, and the world-leading research institution of which we are part.

About the Role

We have three exciting vacancies for the position of Assistant Content Editor in the Upper-Level Content team. Sitting within our Higher Education department at Oxford University Press, the Upper-Level Content team is a transatlantic editorial team that specialises in developing digital and print materials for second-, third-, and fourth-year courses offered at universities and colleges in the UK and North America.

Within a diverse and social international team, you’ll play a key role in the Higher Education Editorial department by ensuring our products are meeting the teaching and learning needs of university instructors and students. This role will provide you with the opportunity to get involved with some of our best digital innovation to date and work closely with other departments whilst taking ownership over your own projects.

Key responsibilities in this role include:

  • Gain and maintain an understanding of the competitive environment and needs of our customers by interacting with them directly through reviews, surveys, and direct engagement
  • Complete detailed analyses of our competitors' products and analyse third-party data
  • Coordinate the market review of new proposals: identify potential reviewers, issue review invitations, set deadlines/follow up, and collate and anonymize reviews
  • Coordinate external peer review of draft manuscripts
  • Commission and coordinate the preparation of market-required resources to support the use of our content and products in the classroom
  • Evaluate content for quality and fit with market need
  • Draw on usage data (where available), market feedback, and other metrics to inform strategic decisions about which supplements to support
  • Manage projects to ensure their completion to brief, schedule, budget, and in line with available resource
  • Perform line-editing and support authors in their development of textual and non-textual pedagogical content
  • Manage author relationships
  • Ensure project tracking systems and CRM (customer relationship management) systems are up to date with accurate data

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

N.B. Two of the vacancies are permanent roles, and one is a 12-month fixed term contract. Please specify in your application whether you are willing to be considered for either type of contract, or if you have a preference.
