JOB VACANCY

Assistant Manager, OA Strategy (Fixed Term Contract)

We are the world’s largest university press. That means we serve the academic community as no other publisher can. We work in partnership with institutions and learned societies to bring a world of knowledge to the fingertips of students and researchers worldwide.

The goal is impact. Together with our academic communities, we curate and seamlessly connect together the ideas that push their fields forward, so they can learn from them, add to them, and continue a virtuous cycle of scholarship.

And because we are a part of the academic community and guided in everything we do by our mission, we re-invest in our people, our publishing, and the world-leading research institution of which we are part.

About the Role

As our new Assistant Manager for Open Access Strategy, you will provide high-level support to the open access (OA) strategy team in managing, administering, analysing, and developing the Press’s OA and open research programme.

Duties will include:

  • Support colleagues in the OA strategy team with management of wider Read and Publish accounts.
  • Provide problem-solving support and analysis for the OA strategy team.
  • Respond to external and internal queries and requests about the OA programme. Liaise with internal departments to resolve issues raised by authors and journal editors.
  • Provide accurate and clear data on the OA programme to assist with communications, reporting, OA policy decisions, and OA sales arrangements.
  • Gather market intelligence on OA and open research including monitoring competitor activity to help keep journals staff informed on industry developments and to inform OA and open research strategy.
  • Maintain and develop internal and external OA training and communication resources.
  • Support the continuous improvement of author and customer open access workflows, including through suggesting and implementing improvements. Document best practice.
  • Participate in and represent OUP at designated external publishing/industry groups and initiatives.
  • Attend appropriate conferences and industry events as appropriate and compile summary reports on those events to distribute internally.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

  • Publishing or transferable professional experience.
  • Understanding of open access, including business models, sales models, policy initiatives, and the opportunities, sensitivities, and challenges of open access models.
