JOB VACANCY

Project Manager

About the Role

We’re looking for a Project Manager to lead and deliver transformative change initiatives within the Technology and Operations function at Oxford University Press. Working across strategic programmes and standalone projects, you will be responsible for driving business transformation through effective project planning, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and governance. The Project Manager ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and to a high standard, contributing to improvements in technology systems, business processes, and organisational change. The role sits within the Portfolio Planning and Delivery team in Enterprise Technology Services, which partners closely with business and technology stakeholders to execute strategic priorities.

This role leads the delivery of high-value projects that drive meaningful business outcomes. Operating within established project management frameworks such as Waterfall and Agile, the Project Manager oversees the full lifecycle of complex initiatives—from definition and planning to execution and delivery. Responsibilities include managing budgets, mitigating risks, coordinating internal teams and external partners, and ensuring robust governance. The role also champions continuous improvement by embedding lessons learned, optimising tools and processes, and fostering strong relationships across Technology, Finance, Operations, and other business functions to ensure alignment and shared success.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

We’re looking for a highly skilled communicator with excellent stakeholder management capabilities and the confidence to influence at senior levels. You’ll have a strong focus on delivering outcomes, making timely decisions, and maintaining integrity and credibility as a trusted advisor. You should be adept at scoping and structuring complex projects, breaking down work into clear phases, and managing risks proactively. A track record of driving continuous improvement and maintaining performance against goals is essential.

You’ll be comfortable navigating change and uncertainty, demonstrating resilience under pressure and a calm, mature approach during challenging situations. Strong organisational and planning skills are key, along with the ability to simplify complex workflows, optimise resources, and foster collaboration across teams and external partners. Experience in presenting to varied audiences and managing formal settings is important. Previous experience in the publishing industry across both print and digital is desirable.

Benefits

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.

This role comes with the added benefit of a discretionary annual payment.
