This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant and supportive Global Technology function as the new Technical Delivery Manager.
OUP’s application portfolio includes customer facing systems and applications as well as internal enabling systems which facilitating OUP’s internal financial and operational processes. Customer facing product solutions include a range of digital, content, and data-centric platforms, web and ecommerce applications, learning & assessment services, online journals, other online research platforms. Enabling systems include finance, sales and marketing, operational, facilities, HR and legal applications.
The Technical Delivery Manager will be responsible for OUP’s end-to-end delivery of a Value stream – a significant grouping of product or enabling applications and systems – from concept to service including development and maintenance capability and the effective use of modern development practices and tools such as agile software development and DevOps practices. This may include both managing internal teams and overseeing a range of partnerships with commercial suppliers that provide application development to the Press onshore, nearshore and offshore as applicable.
This role will work closely with OUP’s divisional enabling system strategy / product teams, product owners, stakeholders and other parts of organisation to specify, estimate, enhance and implement market leading enabling systems / products that enable OUP’s business strategy, meet expected standards and quality and deliver a consistent experience to OUP’s internal / external customers and users.
You will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery and solution outcomes sought from the enabling application / product technology investment portfolio, focusing on quality, cost/budget, engineering rigour, standards alignment and compliance, supplier and resource selection and performance. You will partner with OUP Enterprise Architecture teams for achieving the long-term alignment and optimization of the enabling application portfolio against OUP technology and business strategies.
The role will have line management responsibility for Delivery Team Leads and Application Architects and there will be a requirement to guide and develop staff members, perform regular performance and appraisal reviews.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have/be:
A deep understanding of relevant technology area and how it can be both developed and used to meet business requirements.
Knowledge of business analysis and development methodologies including Agile development.
Experience in delivering solutions within Finance / Operations or Sales and Marketing business areas or experience in customer facing product delivery
Experience in line management and providing support and guidance to team members
Experience in shaping, advising on, and delivering solutions to required quality within agreed budget and timescales
A proven ability to deliver enhancements / projects and an understanding of the need to work with business change management functions to embed change in an effective manner
Deep domain knowledge and experience in either enabling applications or Digital Product
Ability to direct others by establishing clear directions; sets stretching objectives and able to distribute the workload appropriately. Maintains two-way dialogue with others on work and results; brings out the best in people.
Ability to deal with ambiguity and can effectively cope with change; can shift gears comfortably; can decide and act without having the total picture
Good at setting priorities ensuring time is spent on what is important and able to quickly zero in on the critical tasks. Able to quickly sense what will help or hinder accomplishing a goal; eliminates roadblocks; creates focus.
