About the Role

As our new Technical Delivery Manager, you will take end-to-end responsibility for a portfolio of digital products and applications from concept through service. This includes managing internal teams and coordinating external suppliers across onshore, nearshore, and offshore locations. You will ensure solutions meet quality, budget, and compliance standards while aligning with OUP’s enterprise architecture and long-term technology strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage internal and external teams to enhance and maintain applications and platforms.
  • Work with product, architecture, cyber security teams, and stakeholders to define and deliver solutions that align with OUP’s technology and business needs.
  • Ensure timely, cost-effective delivery with a focus on quality, engineering rigor, and standards compliance.
  • Support smooth transitions from strategic programmes to value stream delivery and maintenance, ensuring continuity and performance.
  • Line management duties, providing leadership that cultivates a high-performance environment and encourages professional development and growth within the team.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office. 

About You

We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of technology and how it can be developed, maintained, and applied to meet business needs. You will provide technical leadership, drawing on your experience in delivering and supporting solutions within customer-facing product environments, publishing platforms, or data-driven systems. In addition, you possess expertise in contemporary development methodologies, such as Agile. To be successful in this role, you will ideally have/be:

  • A proven ability to deliver enhancements / projects and an understanding of the need to work with business change management functions to embed change in an effective manner
  • Deep domain knowledge and experience in either customer product applications or publishing platforms.
  • Experience in line management and providing support and guidance to team members
  • Shaping, advising on, and delivering solutions to required quality within agreed budget and timescales
  • Skilled communicator and excellent in stakeholder management
  • Solutions-focused, maintains clear sight of longer-term outcomes to drive shorter-term outputs.
  • Working strategically to realize organizational goals and develops compelling visions for the future.
  • Working with a high degree of integrity. Having a track record of success, keeping to commitments and credibility; a trusted advisor.
  • Ability to work across multiple initiatives with strong delegation and empowerment skills.
