JOB VACANCY

2 x Application Architect

We have been a leading figure in publishing for more than 500 years. We have always been a forward-looking organization, maximizing the technology for the day, but the digital revolution is bringing enormous change, fast. That same spirit of adventure and entrepreneurialism is critical to our future success. In a fast changing publishing landscape, OUP welcomes the inquisitive, the inventive, and the ambitious; people who challenge the conventional, and pioneer the possible.

About the Role

The Application Architect will work with product and enabling systems owners to understand problem statements and collaborate with Enterprise and Solution Architecture colleagues to define all aspects of solution development. This will include ensuring the use of appropriate technologies and that implementation meets quality and engineering standards.

This role will have hands-on responsibility for guiding development teams, whether in house, partner or third-party vendors, ensuring OUP standards, processes and documentation are adhered to, as well as creating proof of concepts for wider implementation by development teams. This role will also work closely with User Experience, Quality Assurance and Information Security and Data Privacy colleagues to ensure all aspects of delivery, functional and non-functional, are fully met.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

The Application Architect will have extensive hands-on coding experience and be familiar with cloud services and technologies (particularly AWS). To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as an Application Architect or Technical Solutions Architect
  • Experience of agile delivery methodologies is an advantage
  • A broad knowledge of technologies such as Java, React, Node.JS, AWS, JavaScript, MongoDB, AWS Lambda etc.
  • Experience in delivering solutions across various functions.
  • Experience in customer facing product delivery.
  • Good understanding of User Experience principles.
  • Experience in building digital products/services for global customer bases is highly advantageous
  • Good stakeholder management with clear communication skills.
  • A track record of success, keeping to commitments and credibility.
  • An ability to work across multiple initiatives.
  • A solutions-focused mind-set.
  • A deep understanding of technology and how it can be both developed and used to meet business requirements.

Benefits

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect to working patterns, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.

We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.
