Application Architect

About the Role

OUP’s application portfolio includes customer-facing systems and applications, as well as internal enabling systems that facilitate OUP’s financial and operational processes. Customer-facing solutions include a range of web and eCommerce applications, learning and assessment services, online products, and content and data-centric platforms. Enabling systems include finance, sales and marketing, operational, facilities, HR, and legal applications.

The Application Architect plays a pivotal role in turning ideas into outcomes by working with product and enabling systems owners to understand feature requests and problem statements, then collaborating with Enterprise and Solution Architecture colleagues to define all aspects of solution design, before and during delivery. This will include ensuring the use of appropriate technologies and that the technical implementation meets quality and engineering standards.

This role will have hands-on responsibility for guiding development teams, whether in house, partner or third-party vendors, ensuring that appropriate tools and engineering processes are adopted, and that OUP standards, processes and documentation are adhered to, as well as creating proof of concepts for wider implementation by development teams. This role will also work closely with User Experience, Quality Assurance and Information Security and Data Privacy colleagues to ensure all requirements, both functional and non-functional, are fully met.

We are thinking through how we use our offices in the future and are open to discussing flexibility within this such as a blend of office and home working.
