Assistant Managing Editor (20 hours per week)

About the Role

This is a permanent part time position, working 3 days or 20 hours per week (0.6 FTE). You’ll be supporting the Managing Editor of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) journals Editorial Office, to ensure that the journals are published in a smooth and timely manner and to a high standard. Providing support to the Editors in Chief and Associate Editors. 

Key duties of the role will include:

  • Under the supervision of the Managing Editor (ME), to oversee the editorial process for manuscripts submitted to the ESHRE journals, from pre-submission proposal assessment through to publication: liaising with authors, reviewers, editors and OUP.
  • Work with a small team of external ‘Adjudicating Editors’ to ensure that no reviewers’ / editorial comments remain outstanding and that manuscripts meet the ESHRE Journals’ high standards of scientific / technical reporting, prior to final acceptance.

Our offices are closed at the moment due to COVID. This position is based at our office in Childerley near Cambridge, with lots of flexibility for working from home.

About You

You don’t have to be an expert in Reproductive Biology and Medicine, though a degree or equivalent experience in Biology, Medicine or similar would be advantageous.  You’ll have great communication skills, an in-depth knowledge of peer review,  experience of working with manuscript submission systems, and of working directly with authors. 

You will have:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject area.
  • Prior editorial or publishing experience.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
