Commissioning Assistant

Global Academic publishes books, journals, and digital resources for the research, professional, and higher education markets. This role is within the Higher Education department. We commission and develop high quality content to support teaching and learning.

About the role

This role offers an exciting entry-level position in our editorial Natural and Social Sciences team for an enthusiastic and motivated individual. Working predominantly on Politics and International Relations and Economics titles for undergraduate students, the successful candidate will work closely with the Commissioning Editors on the commissioning of new titles and the management of our existing content. The role involves:

  • Administrative support: arranging reviews and payments, dealing with contracts, organizing campus visits for the Commissioning Editors, arranging and minuting internal meetings, maintaining accurate product data using various internal systems, and dealing with routine queries
  • Market research: obtaining market feedback on existing titles, proposals for new titles, and competitor titles. Undertaking desk-based subject area research to better inform our new and existing publishing
  • Analysing data: running sales reports and analysing data for the Commissioning Editors; maintaining sales budget spread sheets
  • Team work: liaising with other functions within the department including sales, marketing, production, and design
  • Project management: with guidance from the Commissioning Editors, project manage the manuscript development process and the submission of digital resources for a small number of titles
  • Liaising with authors: as part of support for the Commissioning Editors and also when managing individual titles

 About You

You will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in publishing and an enthusiasm to develop your understanding of the higher education market. You will have the ability to:

  • approach tasks in an efficient way, with excellent attention to detail
  • organise and prioritise a varied workload, meeting deadlines set
  • communicate accurately and confidently at all levels, in person/via telephone and in writing
  • establish and maintain good relations with authors and with other functions and colleagues
  • effectively analyse quantitative and qualitative data to provide appropriate conclusions and recommendations
  • be highly proactive in all areas of your work, and use initiative to solve problems
  • demonstrate strong project management skills
  • show a curiosity in higher education publishing, and an awareness of commercial issues
  • be proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook
