JOB VACANCY

Commissioning Editor (Fixed Term Contract)

Education changes lives forever. It broadens horizons, breaks down barriers, and fires imaginations. Like the University of Oxford of which we are a part, we are committed to uncompromising standards, freedom of expression, and the enrichment of lives through education. This is our motivation, our purpose, and our mission. It is why 100% of the money we make is reinvested into education and research. It is why all 6,000 of us in 52 countries care deeply about reaching more people, in more places, with world-class learning and research materials and services.

The Science and Maths team at OUP publishes a wide range of successful and respected courses for ages 11 to 18. These include print and digital resources for teachers and students.

About the role

We are looking for a Commissioning Editor to join the Secondary Science and Maths teams on a Fixed Term Contract, initially for 6 months but with potential for extension. This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact in education and enhance your commissioning skills by working with innovative publishers on the UK’s biggest STEM education list.

You will be responsible for supporting the implementation of an innovative customer strategy for Science and Maths that will drive growth and focus on developing a strong relationship with our customers by always having a deep understanding of their needs and anticipate how market changes will impact on them.

You will work with authors, teachers, experts, and awarding bodies to develop the best possible resources to support UK schools.

Working with internal and external teams, you will also be responsible for the delivery on time and to budget of projects through strong team and project management skills.

Please note, this will be a fixed term contract for 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong background in educational publishing
  • A deep understanding of the needs of teachers and learners in UK Secondary schools
  • A good understanding of the UK’s science and maths curriculum and qualifications
  • A track-record of having successfully implemented complex projects that has driven share and revenue growth whilst remaining profitable
  • Experience of print and digital publishing
  • Experience of managing, developing and motivating editorial teams

In addition:

  • a good honours degree or equivalent, ideally in a scientific or maths discipline
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • a high level of computer literacy
  • a creative mindset.

Benefits

We care about work/life balance here at OUP; with this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays), and a 35-hour working week, along with the flexibility to start and finish late or early as required.

Our pension contribution is up to 11%.

Wellbeing is really important to us so we also have a wide range of facilities including: a canteen that serves a wide variety of healthy and delicious meals, a subsidized onsite gym and subsidized coffee shops.

We believe that the skills you bring to OUP are just a starting point. We want you to have the opportunity to expand your abilities, and to innovate and develop in areas which both interest you, and support your aspirations.
