Commissioning Editor: Secondary STEM

The Secondary STEM Education Team at OUP publish a wide range of successful and respected courses for ages 11 to 18, working with teachers, educational partners, and industry experts to maximise ensure maximum impact on educational outcomes.

About the Role

We are looking for a Commissioning Editor to join the Secondary STEM team in the UK Education Division. This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact in education by working on high-profile and innovative courses as an influential member of the UK’s biggest STEM education list.

You will be responsible for supporting the implementation of an innovative customer strategy that will drive growth and focus on developing a strong relationship with our customers by always having a deep understanding of their needs and anticipate how market changes will impact on them.

You will work with authors, teachers, experts, and awarding bodies to develop the best possible resources to support UK schools.

This role reports into the Head of Secondary for STEM subjects, but will involve working closely with the Maths and Science list Publishers. Working with internal and external teams, you will also be responsible for the delivery on time and to budget of projects through strong team and project management skills.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong background in educational publishing or curriculum development
  • Experience of designing and commissioning digital resources
  • A deep understanding of the needs of teachers and learners in UK Secondary schools
  • A good understanding of the UK’s Science and/or Maths curriculum and qualifications
  • A track-record of having successfully implemented complex projects that has driven share and revenue growth whilst remaining profitable

In addition:

  • a qualification ideally in a science or maths discipline
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • a high level of computer literacy
  • a creative mind-set.
  • Experience of managing, developing and motivating editorial teams
