Content Architect

About the Role

This role supports all aspects of technical and specialized XML production, site maintenance and its related activities, working on large/strategic projects.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the "life" of assigned content, from release on the platform, through ongoing refreshes and updates. They will work with key stakeholders from Editorial, Digital Operations, Production, and third-party providers, and will be responsible for creating and maintaining content specifications, including developing the full scope of technical, content and cost requirements. This role drives projects through the post-production process to produce quality website content and contributes to ensuring effective content production and delivery.

Relevant work experience in a complex publishing technology environment is desirable. The successful candidate will have the ability to write content transformation scripts and text capture instructions, and to design tools and workflows required to produce, capture and enhance data for online usage.

Duties of the role will include:

  1. Organise the preparation, capture, conversion and quality control of XML content and associated assets.
  2. Manage data suppliers, quality, budgets, and schedules for production of XML content
  3. Support cost-effective solutions for processes and tools efficiencies that affect XML production and its publication including timing and quality.
  4. Ensures project requirements are clearly captured and validated during new product development, includes providing time, and resource estimates, and ensuring that all systems and tools are available in order to support any new/different data requirements.
  5. Monitors and enhances protocols for integrating art, text, audio and video content
  6. Analyse and resolve problems in conjunction with suppliers with regard to XML capture
  7. Clearly state requirements for suppliers and provide guidance
  8. Analyse systems and process and collaborate on recommendations for improvement
  9. Ability to create and deliver training materials related to new business processes
  10. Write transformation scripts to convert source data into OUP standard data structures that meets the agreed data quality standards for publishing and licensing. May also write technical specifications for specific projects or general processes

About You

Essential:

  • Experience in a complex publishing technology environment
  • Quick-to-learn, tech-savvy, and possess exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Evaluate and accurately capture data requirements for both functionality and presentation; resolve errors with capture and develop strategies to eliminate discrepancies
  • Knowledge of content management systems and methodologies
  • Ability to write transformation scripts and text capture instructions, and to design tools and workflows required to produce, capture and enhance data for online usage
  • Ability to read, interpret and make recommendations regarding XML schemas
  • Ability to perform content analysis of diverse content and its underlying structure; determine appropriate data structure for both content and metadata
  • Ability to lead and influence stakeholders while working independently on strategic and tactical projects
  • Experience of XML and XML tools including ability to devise and enhance data models (DTD and/or Schema)
  • Knowledge/understanding of XSLT, XPATH, Unicode and related technologies (i.e., XQuery, Schematron, RDF, DITA)
  • Evaluates and recommends potential technologies 'tools, hardware and software' to accomplish the organization's information management goals

Desirable:

  • Knowledge/understanding of software lifecycle
  • JAVAScript, PERL, Python, CSS (highly desirable)
  • Understanding of UX and how Content impacts UX
  • Experience in requirements definition, mapping, gap analysis, design and deployment
  • Experience in data quality and data integration experience
  • Providing business, governance and technical recommendations
