Director of Strategy & Delivery

About the Role

We’re changing the way we do things, and are seeking a Director of Strategy and Delivery to support and guide us on this journey. It’s an exciting time at OUP, and our Oxford Education (OE) division are looking for this role to generate new ideas and ways of doing business to boost development and growth, ensuring commitments are achievable and delivered.

We have been a leading figure in publishing for more than 500 years. We have always been a forward-looking organization, maximizing the technology for the day, but the digital revolution is bringing enormous change, fast. That same spirit of adventure and entrepreneurialism is critical to our future success. In a fast changing publishing landscape, OUP welcomes the inquisitive, the inventive, and the ambitious; people who challenge the conventional, and pioneer the possible.

With responsibility for the OE strategic planning process, working closely with the Finance Director and MDs, a key focus for this role is aligning with the overall OUP Group Corporate Strategy. This will include developing a monitoring and reporting system to help the OE Senior Leadership Team deliver their short and long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the facilitation of OE’s strategic planning cycle and KPIs
  • Manage the OE business planning framework
  • Deliver high quality, reliable strategic information
  • Provide market insight and related forecasting on emerging trends
  • Coordinate the roll-out of strategic plans, transformation programs and key initiatives

About You

Crucial to this role is the ability to build relationships, inspire others and bring a positive attitude to change. You’ll also have the following:

  • Either alumni of a well recognised Strategy Consulting house or robust background in operating at a senior level within a Strategic Advising and business support role
  • Strong track record of using various strategic frameworks across traditional print and digital media/publishing businesses
  • Experience at coordinating and writing high quality and compelling strategy and business proposals, for board level submission
  • Experience in deep hypothesis driven strategy development
  • Experience in designing and implementing KPIs for a complex business
  • Track record in identifying, screening and negotiating acquisitions / strategic partnerships to support the delivery of business strategy
  • Experience of interacting and influencing senior stakeholders and leadership teams, including CEO/CFO
  • Publishing Sector experience (education publishing desirable)
