Editor (Maths)

About us

Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford, which furthers the University’s objectives of excellence in research, scholarship and education by publishing worldwide.

The Education Division provides books and resources across Primary, Secondary, Trade and Children’s markets, both for the UK and for customers around the world. We are passionately committed to our mission to educate and inspire through book, board and screen.

The Secondary Mathematics team produces high-quality educational books and online platforms for UK Secondary schools, covering Key Stage 3, GCSE and post-16. A new post has become available in the team to work on a variety of projects across Key Stages and across digital and print platforms.

About the role

We are seeking an editor or assistant editor, depending on experience, to work on exciting new titles in Secondary Maths, both online and print-based.

This role will involve:

  • Providing support to the editorial team in all publishing projects to ensure timely delivery at high quality.
  • Editing and handling scripts and illustration briefs across various publishing projects.
  • Creating and editing digital resources; building digital content and processing metadata.
  • Managing own projects as well as contributing to larger projects involving the wider maths team across multiple departments; planning and managing own schedules in accordance with the overall publishing plan.
  • Recruiting and working with external authors and freelance contractors; setting and managing their schedules; forging and cultivating strong working relationships with all those involved.
  • Keeping backlist titles maintained, to ensure ongoing quality and to satisfy customer need.
  • Researching educational markets and contributing ideas to team planning.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication skills, a good grasp of the English language, and keen attention to detail.
  • A strong academic background in Maths, with a good degree in Maths or a related subject.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Strong inter-personal skills; showing tact and respect when working with multiple people across multiple projects.
  • A passion for creating new content, in both digital and print formats, and an eye for what the customer wants.
  • An interest in education and empowering the next generation of learners.

The following experience would also be of benefit:

  • Experience of working within publishing, ideally gained with a publisher of educational resources, and ideally with experience of working in both print and digital formats.
  • Experience within educational markets, perhaps gained within a publishing or school environment.
