The Academic Division publishes books, journals, and digital resources for the research, professional, and higher education markets.

The Academic & Trade department publishes across the humanities and social sciences, alongside a successful trade non-fiction programme. The Law department publishes a wide range of titles for the academic and practitioner law markets. Both departments publish into a prestigious and award-winning range of online products including Oxford Scholarship Online, Very Short Introductions Online, and Oxford Public International Law.


About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for two creative, organised and enthusiastic individuals to join our Academic & Trade and Law publishing teams. There is one role available in each department, and full or part-time applicants will be considered for these roles.

The Editorial Programme Manager will work closely with the Editorial Director and the commissioning team in each area to manage and deliver a coordinated publishing programme of books and online services for the Academic & Trade and Law departments.

Each role will include:

  • the effective delivery of a large and varied publishing programme across digital and print consisting of new publishing, working in close co-ordination with the content operations, production, and digital operations teams, and new projects, working in close co-ordination with the commissioning team.
  • managing a newly formed Editorial Programme Team working at the heart of the Editorial departments and devising a team infrastructure, aligned with the objectives of the business, which provides for a project-oriented approach to product development,
  • becoming a key sponsor and change agent for the successful implementation of new ways of working and processes both within and beyond the editorial programme team maintaining a core focus on staff mentoring, career development, and talent retention.


About You:

You will be a positive and motivated team player with a strong interest in publishing.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • education to degree standard (or equivalent),
  • a proven track record of project management, including delivery of complex projects to schedule and budget, experience of publishing, ideally in an academic environment and across digital and print formats (some familiarity with Agile methodologies would be helpful but is not essential),
  • proven problem solving, strategic thinking, influencing, and presentation skills,
  • team management and leadership experience,
  • strong experience in staff mentoring, career development, and talent retention,
  • excellent relationship building, collaboration, and communication skills,
  • ability to manage a large and varied workload with multiple stakeholders and deadlines
