Global Product Director

About the Role

The role will be responsible and accountable for the overall product portfolio for the Education division. It is a central and coordinating matrix role and encompasses five key areas:

  • Product Strategy for the entire product portfolio, including assessment and impact
  • Product Management including blended and digital product management, with a digital first approach
  • Pedagogy, Learning Science, Product and Learning Design, Product Performance and Insight Management
  • Product Portfolio and Investment Management
  • Key stakeholder partnership management, specifically with Branch MDs (to ensure local needs are met), and Technology & Operations (for the delivery of digital first content tools and digital product platforms and capabilities)

The role is responsible for ensuring that world class, customer led, digital and blended products and services make a significant contribution to the Education Division by investing to increase the reach and impact of its products and services, profitably. OUP is applying our brand, products, people and scale to reshape the future of learning, and this role is central to that vision. This is particularly important as the education industry moves from analogue to blended and digital, increasing the need for innovation to ensure customer needs continue to be met.

This focused position will shape, develop, monitor, and maintain our overall product portfolio and plans. This will include divisionally prioritised product roadmap aligned to our divisional strategy, product performance and lifecycle management, and the management fixed and variable product costs and resources. To deliver this, the role will work closely with global and regional Product teams, Technology, Divisional Strategy, and local Marketing and Sales teams to ensure our strategic priorities and goals are met.

We’re all currently working from home at the moment due to COVID. We are currently thinking through how we use our offices in the future and are open to discussing flexibility within this such as a blend of office and home working.

About You

Having already managed product and portfolio management at a global level, working directly with digital and blended product technology and learning platforms, you will be confident in managing teams in multiple locations and countries. You will also require:

  • Global experience of commercially successful learning design and learning science based products and services, including learning standards and taxonomies
  • Demonstrable experience of managing commercially and educationally successful school assessment products and services
  • Experience successfully designing and delivering product efficacy and impact principles, processes and reports
  • Robust product roadmap and portfolio reporting experience
  • A track record of driving effective revenue, profit/surplus and market share growth through business and operational excellence strategies within international markets
  • Specific leadership and cross-functional team leadership experience within a matrix environment
  • Passion and deep knowledge of global and emerging learning technologies, learning platforms, product solutions, commercial and operational frameworks
  • Extensive experience and a strong track record of success in Product Management, preferably in educational publishing
  • Proven team leadership, management, negotiating, and influencing skills at a senior level, with strong financial management skills
