Head of Strategic Delivery

The Press’s Education Division provides books and resources across Primary, Secondary, Trade and Children's markets, both for the UK and for customers around the world. The Strategy & Delivery (S&D) team is a Strategic Enabling Function within the Press’ Education Division. They are responsible for facilitating the growth and success of Education Division and its markets with insights, strategic analysis, strategy development and strategic delivery support to promote fast, effective decision making and execution.

About the Role

Responsible for leading and managing a small team of Strategy Delivery Partners, you will play a vital role in the prioritisation and delivery of strategic initiatives within the Education Division. You and your team will work with a wide range of key stakeholders to ensure:

  1. The successful set up, running, delivery and benefits realisation of strategic initiatives
  2. Strategic initiatives are tracked appropriately and that the reporting on these initiatives are well maintained
  3. That issues affecting the delivery of strategic initiatives are well mediated, mitigated and/or resolved.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Agree the priorities for strategic initiatives to be delivered in markets, in conjunction with the Director of Strategy & Delivery
  • Ownership of the delivery process of the Education Division’s strategic initiatives, ensuring delivery is to time and on budget and that the team use best practice methodologies and processes for delivery. Also, accountable for delivering a number of strategic initiatives
  • Effective motivation and management of team of Strategy Delivery Partners
  • Ensuring Strategy Delivery team is well aligned to markets and their leadership.

About You

You will be a pro-active, self- sufficient and self-motivated leader with the ability to communicate at all levels. You will also have:


  • Track record of understanding business priorities, strategic thinking and supporting the delivery of division wide business strategy and strategic initiatives. Balances long term thinking with day to day activities
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to lead, manage and develop team members successfully
  • Substantial delivery and programme management experience in a corporate environment (end to end delivery management - scope creation, programme set up and business case review, benefits tracking and reporting, etc)
  • Proven track record of demonstrating ability to manage/influence stakeholders of all levels and align colleagues behind a common goal
  • Critical thinker and problem solver who is motivated to seek data and input to inform work and drive towards the optimal decision
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and committed to hitting tight deadlines in a fast paced strategic environment
  • Outstanding team player who is able to work across different time zones, markets and cultures and who engages in a culture of partnership, teamwork and collaboration
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) skills with the ability to produce visually attractive and well-articulated presentations and reports.


  • Experience of working in publishing and or education.
