Senior Marketing Manager - FTC

About the Role

NB. This is a 6 month FTC/ Secondment

We are seeking a Senior Marketing Manager to develop, manage and implement the marketing strategy across our home learning and children’s trade division, developing expertise and market strategy across specific consumer channels, leading on marketing and PR campaigns for major brands; increasing reach and revenue; embedding and evolving key home learning and children’s partnerships, and leading a team of marketers.

The post holder will work closely with publishing, sales, commercial and other departments to define strategies for new programmes and effectively manage take to market plans.

Key responsibilities will include -

  1. Developing and delivering our home learning and children’s trade strategy to UK customers and across key channels.
  2. Ensuring all activity is effective and generates maximum return on investment.
  3. Lead a small team of marketers, with responsibility for full line management, coaching and mentoring to foster a collaborative and knowledgeable approach to working practice.
  4. Manage the home learning and children’s trade team budget to ensure appropriate levels of spend are allocated to brands and key projects.
  5. Analysis of customer and market information and identification of target markets and market opportunities to inform sales and marketing plans and to feed into resource decision making.
  6. Assisting with the development of sales revenue, backorder and adoption targets, as well as other key strategic performance indicators across marketing, to ensure business targets are met or exceeded.
  7. Managing departmental marketing projects including developing marketing strategy as needed, ensuring our marketing outputs remain competitive and in line with market need.

About You

You will be a creative, customer-focused individual who learns quickly and has the ability to understand and respond to internal and external customer needs, driving the continual development of our marketing strategy.

The successful candidate will have:


  • Experience of marketing at a senior level
  • Experience of managing high level consumer facing PR campaigns
  • Team management experience with excellent leadership skills
  • Experience of setting and leading marketing strategy
  • Experience of leading business initiatives
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills and ability to form partnerships
  • Experience of digital marketing and marketing digital product
  • Experience of setting and managing sector level budgets
  • Excellent presentational and interpersonal skills across teams
  • Experience of using management information systems to analyse business performance and market trends



  • Knowledge of the education and/or qualifications sectors
  • Knowledge of the children’s trade publishing market
  • Business/marketing qualification
  • Willingness to travel


We care about work/life balance here at OUP; with this in mind we offer 25 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays), and a 35-hour working week, along with the flexibility to start and finish late or early as required. Working from home once a week will also be possible if required.

Our pension contribution is up to 11%.
