About the Role
As our newly created Senior Publisher, Owned and Product, your time will be split between traditional journal management and a newly created responsibility for Product, acting as the Journals representative on select projects including research, presentation of unique Journal context and requirements, financial modelling and analysis, strategic recommendations, and project reporting and communications.
Duties will include:
Owned:
Manage and develop a high value portfolio of titles, across a range of subject areas
Negotiate successful, consistent contractual terms with Editors, and any affiliated society partners
Work collaboratively and productively with other functional groups
Manage a list of journals to ensure journal, departmental, and divisional targets (including revenue, quality, and profitability) are achieved
Help develop and roll out OUP journal policies across the portfolio
Work with the Director and Senior Leaders to identify and implement projects to support growth and efficiencies
Lead or contribute to the response to RFPs for new potential purchases in subject areas identified for content growth
Lead the transition process for newly purchased titles in your area of expertise
Attend appropriate conferences/industry events as appropriate
Product:
Participate in the Journals-Product Working Group and chair relevant sub-groups as required
Liaise with other staff in Journals Editorial to understand their Product development needs, communication needs, and priorities for developments
Lead or contribute to the Journals Editorial innovation cycle to generate and capture ideas for strategic review at Journals-Product Working Group
Contribute to the response to RFPs for select potential acquisitions in the department regarding Product & Platform, including financial modelling input as required
About You
You will have:
Significant publishing or transferable professional experience
Strong understanding of academic publishing, including editorial processes, production processes, marketing, industry trends, systems, competitors, and technology.
Outstanding communication skills and the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate with both internal and external parties.
Analytical and forecasting ability to review trends and align development appropriately.
