Global Academic publishes books, journals, and digital resources for the research, professional, and higher education markets. This role is within the Higher Education department. We commission and develop high quality content to support teaching and learning.

About the Role

This role offers an exciting entry level position in our editorial law team for an enthusiastic and motivated individual. Working on law titles for undergraduate students, the successful candidate will work closely with the Publishing Manager on the commissioning of new titles and the management of our existing content.

The role involves:

  • Administrative support: arranging campus visits for the Publishing Manager, arranging and minuting internal meetings, arranging payments for reviewers and authors, dealing with contracts and clearing permissions, maintaining accurate product data using various internal systems, and dealing with routine queries
  • Market research: obtaining market feedback on existing titles, proposals for new titles, and competitor titles. Undertaking subject area research to better inform our new and existing publishing
  • Analysing data: running sales reports and analysing data for the PM; maintaining sales budget spreadsheets
  • Team work: liaising with other functions within the department including sales, marketing, and production
  • Project management: with guidance from the Publishing Manager, project manage the manuscript development process for a small number of titles
  • Liaising with authors: as part of support for the Publishing Manager and also when managing individual titles

About You

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate a keen interest in publishing and an enthusiasm to develop your understanding of the higher education market. You will have the ability to:

  • communicate accurately and confidently at all levels, in person/via telephone and in writing
  • establish and maintain good relations with authors and with other functions and colleagues
  • organise and prioritise a varied workload, meeting deadlines set
  • approach tasks in an efficient way, with excellent attention to detail
  • effectively analyse quantitative and qualitative data to provide appropriate conclusions and recommendations
  • be highly proactive in all areas of your work, and use initiative to solve problems
  • demonstrate strong project management skills
  • show a curiosity in higher education publishing, and an awareness of commercial issues
  • be proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook
