Continuous Improvement Project Lead

The Operations & Business Improvements Team within OUP’s Academic Sales function provides system and process improvement support to range of global users including sales representatives, processing operatives, customer-facing and sales support staff.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity in our Academic Sales function leading continuous improvement projects targeted at processes covering the whole sales cycle for OUP’s Academic product catalogue.

We’re looking for an experienced CI project lead, primarily to lead Kaizen event-based improvement projects, but also to provide coaching support to other Lean trainees within the team, and to assist in the future development of our CI programme as we look to make CI a standard way of operating within the department.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and facilitating regular Kaizen events and managing the delivery of improvements using Lean Six Sigma methodology. 
  • Measuring and tracking the benefits of delivered improvements.
  • Providing coaching support to other members of the team in the planning and facilitation of events, and delivery of improvements.
  • Assisting in the scoring and prioritisation of continuous improvement ideas submitted by the department.
  • Acting as an ambassador for continuous improvement by coaching the wider community in Lean methodology and encouraging participation in CI activities.
  • Acting as a Product Owner for key systems used within Sales, ensuring that changes proposed and implement help us to further eliminate waste.

About You

To be successful in this role you must:

  • Have Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Have experience in leading at least 8 Kaizen event-based improvement projects and be able to demonstrate the benefits that resulted.
  • Be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of DMAIC, and the most important tools and techniques used at each phase of an improvement project.
  • Be an experienced and confident facilitator, able to demonstrate an ability bring out desirable behaviours in event participants, deal with challenging situations, and be a convincing advocate for Lean methodology.

Desirable:

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Experience in assisting with the management of continuous improvement programmes.
  • Experience in implementing Salesforce-based process improvements.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodology.
