Editor (Assistant Editor)

The Education Division provides books and resources across Primary, Secondary, Trade and Children's markets, both for the UK and for customers around the world. We are passionately committed to our mission to educate and inspire through books and digital materials. The Humanities team at OUP publishes a wide range of successful and respected courses for ages 11 to 18 in a range of subjects including History, Psychology and RE. These include print and digital resources for teachers and students.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Editor (Assistant Editor) with commitment and flair to join our Secondary Humanities team.You will be responsible for developing and project managing courses and individual titles, from briefing authors and handover of manuscript through to publication - editing briefs and manuscripts, managing schedules, and controlling budgets. You will liaise with authors, customers, in-house colleagues, and external suppliers to ensure timely publication of both print and digital resources for UK Secondary schools.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • strong editorial management skills, with a proven ability to deliver projects on time and to budget
  • excellent organisational, time management and problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritise and communicate effectively
  • creativity, enthusiasm, and excellent attention to detail
  • an ability to maintain and administer editorial systems
  • knowledge of the UK schools market.

In addition:

  • a good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • a high level of computer literacy
  • an appreciation of the needs of teachers and learners
  • a commitment to educational publishing.
