JOB VACANCY

Head of Business Development - Music

OUP’s Music Department is a world-renowned classical music publisher, with a strong educational catalogue and a legacy catalogue of classical twentieth-century British and American music. It is one of the leading publishers of choral music, with a roster of some of the best-known contemporary composers in the genre, and a vision to be the world’s leading publisher of quality choral music. We are also the proud distributor of the publishing catalogue of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)

This is an exciting time in our development, as we look to expand our business into new markets, and with the emergence of new digital business models and licensing opportunities.

About the role

This is a new role, bringing together our sales and licensing activity under a single team, with accountability for developing and implementing a strategy to build our revenue and surplus through traditional and new sales and licensing channels.

You will work with your team to understand the potential value of different territories, channels and revenue streams and where best to invest effort in order to maximize income and profitability. You will be responsible for setting clear targets and tracking performance, and for working with your team to improve the revenue and pipeline.

You will account manage the sales aspect of our ABRSM distribution contract and explore how to add value to that relationship. You will also be responsible for managing the relationship with our own distributor in the USA, and will work with them to ensure we have efficient working practices, consistently good quality distribution, and access to the information we need in order to grow our US business.

Using data, you will develop effective approaches to pricing, discount and channel prioritisation in order to maximise income and surplus. Reporting into the Director of Music Publishing you will prepare and manage the expenditure budget for the Business Development team and will set and monitor revenue budgets.

As a member of the Music Management team, you will be supporting the smooth running of the department and work with the Management team to influence departmental strategy towards the delivery of increased revenue and surplus.

About you

  • Highly driven individual, with a strong track record of building business in a senior sales or licensing role within the publishing industry (not necessarily music).
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, with a track record in leading change.
  • Proven strategic and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex legal contracts, and strong experience with Excel and other software packages.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues within the department, the wider organization, and with customers and suppliers externally.

As part of our attractive benefits package we offer a company car, a 35 hour working week with 25 days holiday and pension contributions of up to 11%.

GJC Level: M7 (internal use only)

Please note: Interviews will take place during the advertising period.
