About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Publisher to join our Humanities & Social Science team to manage, develop and grow a list of society journals.  The team has responsibility for over 100 journals, partnering with a range of societies to manage the portfolio to a degree of excellence that enhances OUP’s standing in the learned society and publishing landscape. You will work collaboratively with other functional groups within OUP’s Academic Division to deliver an excellent service for society partners and to ensure that OUP’s objectives are achieved.

You will:

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of society contracts, providing exceptional service at all stages of the process
  • Renew society contracts with maximum financial contribution to OUP
  • Lead or contribute to the response to RFPs for new potential high-value society business in subject areas identified for content growth.
  • Negotiate successful, consistent contractual terms with society partners that align with OUP strategic priorities
  • Ensure adherence to contractual terms for all journals in your portfolio.
  • Present for approval, and launch new open access journals with society partners
  • Manage a list of journals to ensure journal, departmental, and divisional targets (including revenue, quality, and profitability) are achieved
  • Work with finance and operations colleagues to manage costs and ensure maximum long and short term profitability of the journal list
  • Lead the transition process for newly acquired titles in your area ensuring a methodological approach
  • Create and present Editorial Development plans to societies and editorial boards
  • Roll out OUP journal policies across the portfolio
  • Assist with implementation of projects that scale across the journals programme

About You

You will ideally be goal orientated, able to influence, and be a strong communicator who can effectively build strong relationships. You will have:

  • Publishing or transferable professional experience
  • Understanding of academic publishing, including editorial processes, production processes, marketing, industry trends, systems, competitors, and technology
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate with both internal and external parties
  • Analytical and forecasting ability to review trends and align development appropriately
  • Entrepreneurial skills and commercial awareness
  • Experience of working on Humanities and Social Science journals is desirable
