Rights & Hire Library Assistant.

OUP’s Music Department is one of the world’s leading music publishers, with a strong educational catalogue incorporating major instrumental and classroom titles. It has a world-renowned choral list and a legacy catalogue of classical twentieth- and twenty-first century British and American music. 

The Right & Contracts team provides copyright, contract, and licensing services for all Music titles; and the Music Hire Library supplies full scores, parts, and vocal scores to choirs and orchestras worldwide. 

About the Role 

This role provides flexible cross-functional support and assistance across both the Rights & Contracts, and Hire Library teams. The role reports to the Head of Rights & Contracts. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Picking, dispatching, and returning to stock materials for Hire Library orders
  • Monitoring levels/quality of Hire material stock
  • Dealing with hire enquiries and fee quotations
  • Issue of selected permission and other licences
  • Managing the printed Music Archive, including liaison with Archive Service partners
  • Completing music collecting society ‘new title’ registrations
  • Updating copyright data in SAP IPM
  • Issuing Commissioning Agreements 

About You 

To be successful in this role you must: 

  • Demonstrate a wide knowledge and understanding of classical music notation, repertoire, and performance organizations
  • Have an understanding of (or aptitude to learn about) copyright and contracts as relevant to the publishing and entertainment industries
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate careful attention to detail at all time
  • Be highly organized and self-motivated, and able to manage your own priorities and those of the team
  • Have strong IT and data management skills, with an aptitude for picking up new systems quickly 

Desirable: 

  • Previous customer service experience
  • Experience handling orchestral scores and parts, and knowledge of orchestral terminology
