Rights Assistant

About the role

We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic, and highly motivated team member to join this busy and high-achieving team. Assisting two Senior Rights Managers in all aspects of licensing administration, this person will be involved in the maintenance of relationships with existing customers as well as helping to discover and grow new business.

You will work as part of a team of 8 in the Translations and Reprints Team, responsible for licensing translation and English-language reprint rights around the world. Each year we license in excess of 1,000 translations across our Academic and Trade lists, working closely with thousands of licensing partners across the globe, enabling OUP titles to read in over 50 languages. Our mission is to increase dissemination of our book content, exploring new markets and territories whilst promoting our authors, societies and brand profile.

You will have experience in;

  • Rights research
  • Deal preparation/drafting contracts
  • Compiling financial reports
  • Liaising with foreign publishers; agents; authors; other departments.
  • Operational support
  • Preparation of materials for Book Fairs

About you

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to start their career in academic publishing, and who is exploring a future in rights licensing, we ask that candidates are ideally able to demonstrate prior admin and/or office experience and would ask that they also have:

  • Ability to prioritize a challenging workload
  • Ability to work on their own initiative, as part of a busy team
  • High organizational skills with an eye for detail
  • Ability to adapt to different systems and procedures
  • All-round excellent communication and people skills
  • Computer literacy – familiarity with MS Office and Outlook.
  • Flexible approach with excellent time management skills
  • An interest in non-fiction publishing and rights, with some office-based experience is highly desirable.
