About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Journals Production department as a Senior Author Specialist, working as part of a team of Production staff that provides specialist support to journals authors in the production workflow, including management of the post-publication corrections process, and for supporting the continuous improvement of the author journey by identifying and delivering operational solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
Responding to production specific author queries and solving complex author problems
Relaying author queries to the appropriate internal teams
Maintaining and developing journal ‘Author Guidelines’ web pages.
Analysing and acting on author feedback and following up with authors directly where appropriate
Analysing the quantity and content of author queries received during the production process
Liaising with OUP’s marketing and publicity teams where required to co-ordinate effective promotion of individual articles.
Creating and maintaining appropriate documentation to support consistent,accurate, and high quality communication to authors.
Collaborating with other production teams and internal stakeholders to achieve department and business goals and to ensure an outstanding experience for customers and clients during the production process.
Leading, participating in, or initiating projects that develop and standardize production processes within the department to improve department performance and the quality of our products and author service.
Managing effective communication within the Department and with other Departments in the Press to ensure that good working relationships are maintained and development opportunities maximized.
Training, mentoring, coaching or advising new and existing staff, both in general and with specific reference to author support, to ensure they comprehend production procedures and new developments, while reviewing and suggesting improvements to current training program.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

Experience in production, including the management of new, sensitive, or particularly complex work
Experience of managing author relationships
The ability to solve problems creatively
Excellent communication and organisational skills
The ability to handle a dynamic workload in a rapidly evolving marketplace
Superior negotiation and influencing skills
Experience of successfully managing multiple projects to completion
Experience of managing and/or leading changes to processes and services
Whilst not essential, experience of working in journals production and an understanding of journals publication ethics would be beneficial.
